ONLINE AND IN PERSON PSYCHOTHERAPY IN MASSACHUSETTS
It’s time: heal what’s been holding you back.
Hi, I’m Emily Stewart Macomber, LMHC.
You are here because you want to be connected to your authentic self again.
I get it, because I have done the work too. I’m a relational therapist and I have lived experience with recovering from relational traumas. I strive to make a therapy space that is non-judgemental, honest, and supports real change.
I am here to support you to:
Leave behind unwanted behaviors.
Dismantle deeply kept negative self beliefs.
Heal the unmet needs of your inner child.
Process the harms that have come to you.
Lead your most authentic, grounded life.
My Approach
Relational therapy; it’s about connection and trust.
Connection is part of who we are as human beings. When we experience shame, neglect, or invalidation, we can lose that connection—not only with others, but with ourselves. These painful experiences shape the way we see the world and can leave us feeling fearful, small, angry, or unsure. We might wonder, “Where did the person I used to be go?” or “Why do I feel capable in some parts of my life but stuck in others?” These are questions we can explore together.
Many therapists are trained to stay neutral, to be a “blank slate.” While that can create some kinds of safety, it can also make it hard to reach the deeper, more meaningful layers of healing. My approach is different. I bring my real self into the room. Talking with someone who listens, feels, and connects with you can be transformative. I believe that the relationship we build together in therapy isn’t just part of the healing process but where healing can truly begin.
My Values
Collaboration
I am an expert in treating trauma, but not your life. I welcome clients to bring their reactions to the room. We will explore what didn’t work for you, what did, what feels helpful, and what does not. When we replicate rupture and repair in therapy, you get better outside of therapy.
Transparency
There’s no psychobabble or psycho-analyzing here. I will always explain why I ask certain questions, provide definitions, and refer to the science to explain therapy concepts. We will confront avoidance in plain terms, never forcing our way past safety barriers but acknowledging them and their hard work.
Safety
Psychological safety is the foundation of good trauma work. Clients must feel secure enough to explore difficult experiences at their own pace and it is prioritized from day one. We will push past barriers an eyelash at a time, making sure safety stays intact.
Autonomy
Trauma can make people feel powerless, deficient, and disordered. My goal is to foster autonomy in all of my clients. I do not have the answers, but I can help you discover what is keeping your awareness hidden.
Therapy with me may be right for you if…

You are ready to build self-trust and confidence that feels real, not forced.
There is a voice telling you that you are not enough, no matter how hard you try.
Your inner critic keeps you up at night replaying mistakes, doubting every decision, and telling you that others have it all figured out.
You bounce between feeling completely overwhelmed or completely numb, but never at peace.
